Hi There! Welcome to the No Ceilings blog!

Hey Hey! Welcome to to my first blog post of my website and career consult business - No Ceilings. It’s always been a passion of mine to help others in their career journeys. Growing up, my mom use to bring me to work with her pretty frequently. I loved getting dressed and driving into Downtown Houston, where my mom worked in this tall building. Who would have thought those moments were planting seeds that later shaped my career? My mom aka Mother Theresa is a Senior Program Manager (PM) in Community Relations. She is my idol and I learn so much from her. I typically get the question, “Did you become a PM because your mom is a PM?” Short answer - No. lol My career journey took some twists and turns prior to me becoming a PM. Although, my organization skills are a direct reflection of my mom. Check out more family info in the About Me section. Alrighty, since it’s our first time meeting, I thought this first post should be a Q&A. Check it out below!

Why did you start No Ceilings?

  • I’ve always been passionate about my career since being in college and on the hunt for internships. Thinking further back, my mom helped me a lot with resume writing and making sure formatting was ready for my interviews. She was my first career teacher actually. Thanks mom! As the years went by, I slowly became that resource for my friends. In college, I primarily focused on resumes and as we’ve matured in our careers, its evolved into interview prep, document writing, mock interviews, LinkedIn profile optimization, career planning and more. In addition, throughout my professional career I have not seen many people of color (POC) especially women and I want help change that.

What do I want people to take away from my content?

  • Everyone’s career journey is on a different timeline. It’s easy to get stuck in the comparison game, but know the right opportunity for you is for you and will come in due time. I would like you all to view me as transparent, as I will share obstacles I faced in the past and those that still impact me today. More importantly, I will provide tips and tricks I’ve learned to help push through challenges and really help you lean in.

What makes my perspective different from others that create similar content?

  • First off, we are ALL great and I love to see other minority women helping each other. For me specifically, a black woman working in tech (Amazon, Uber, PayPal, Google) where the majority of companies have less 5% African Americans employed, I’ve been exposed and gained insights on how to successfully navigate politics while staying true to myself and what I stand for. My learnings over these 7 years have helped shaped me to be who I am today (along with God of course), and I want to show other women of color, that opportunities are out there.

What do I hope to learn from my readers?

  • We all have different stories and perspectives and when I hear from you, it gives me the opportunity to learn. We are living in a time where every industry is in flux, cultures are changing, return to office, and so many other things. Hearing your experiences, feelings, emotions - all will help the greater good grow.

What’s my favorite thing to do?

  • It varies. But I love running, watching Abbott Elementary (my goal is to be an extra one day) and spend time with my husband and pup, Kygo. Check out more in the About Me section.

Thank you all for reading & I can’t wait to share with you all each week!
